Hair Extensions

Okay - I am a fine hair girlie. I have a lot of hair, but each strand is pretty fine. This has resulted in me having and using a plethora of different hair extension methods in my personal life over the last ten years, which I will share *my opinion* from a bridal perspective below…

Clip in hair extensions

  • Popular, personal favorite for most brides who don’t wear extensions and don’t want to continue wearing extensions after the big day

  • Low to no commitment

meaning these clip in while using them and are easily taken out after use

  • Blend-ability

Should be cut to blend perfectly with your natural hair - if you notice hair extensions, that’s no bueno.

  • Range of cost

I may ruffle some stylist feathers here, but these can be “affordable”, amazon has some really solid options when it comes to human hair extensions. Be sure you buy 100% human hair extensions and read and watch reviews extensively. I have a specific link I recommended to my brides, however I always share that there are more high quality hair extensions on the market with more hair per weft and higher quality color blends available, which a link will always be provided for as well. I just like options for budgets!

Beaded Wefts / Seamless sewn in extensions

  • Personal favorite method of daily use extensions.

I had these extensions for the better part of a year and was able to achieve lots of hair growth while loving my hair in the process.

  • Semi permanent

wefts are sewn into a beaded parting or a braid against the head, theyre maintained by being moved up once the hair grows

  • Comfortable

Because the extension lacks clips and lays flat these are super comfortable to sleep in, wear hats with, etc

  • Higher price point

These, like lashes or acrylic nails are a luxury service that require a level of maintenance. The cost of hair and the installation and the move ups are something to consider

  • Can limit styles

Not by much, but because of the way these are laid on the head, it can make achieving high styles or ponies harder, or not possible. I can move clip ins any which way, to the top of your head or wherever and so you’re a smidge more limited when the hair is not movable from the base.

Pony Tail Extensions

So, I don’t love these…I don’t hate em but theyre not my favorite to work with. I’d prefer to achieve a pony with clip in extensions, I like the flexibility / movability.

I think they have a time and a place, like if you want an ultra sleek, slicked pony style with tons of length, but because the way they wrap around the base, the base gets bigger than I’d like so, again, they’re not my absolute favorite.

If you’re set on a pony extension, make sure it is 100% human hair, unless you don’t mind a blend that is not able to be curled or straightened and has a bit of an unnatural sheen.

Tape in Extensions

Once upon a time I had horrible hair breakage, Ill try to find a pic for proof. At the time tape in extensions were my best option so we did an entire head of them…. Now… I loved the result, I finally had hair above my ears again (typical chemical cut)… however I could only stand the entire head of tape ins long enough to get a little growth before I had to take them out myself in my bathroom… using goo gone to break through the hospital grade adhesive, lol. ( didnt have remover and anxiety was hiiigh)

NOW, I love a few tape ins to fill in front sections of hair that can’t handle the wefts but I will never suggest someone get an entire head of them, ever… especially when there are better, more comfortable options available. “Thats my opinion” - Tamra Judge (lol)

Microlinks

Now, I can’t speak on having micro link extensions, but I’d say I think my opinion is similair to that of tape ins.
